Sydöstra Kaskasatjåkkaglaciären is a small valley glacier situated on the south eastern slope of Mt Kaskasatjåkka (67°57N, 18°37E). The glacier is oriented towards south, is 0.5 km2 and is described in detail by Svenonius (1910), Schytt (1959) and Grudd (1990). Its front position was first surveyed in 1897 by Norgren and Rönnholm and they named it wrongly "Tarfalajauregletscher". Svenonius (1910) is correcting the name, wrongly again, to "Tarfalaglaciären", a name which was occupied by a glacier on the other side of the mountain Tarfalatjåkka. Finally it got a name just telling its position

The oldest documentation of Sydöstra Kaskasatjåkkaglaciären is a photograph from 1908 and a description written Svenonius (1910). The glacier was photographed using high quality cameras in 1910 and 1914 by Enquist and in 1922 by Odencrantz. The glacier was advancing until about 1915 when the 20th century retreat began (Hamberg and others 1930). The present glacier is approximately 700 metres shorter than it was in 1915. Annual surveys of the front have been carried out since 1957. The large rate of thinning during this century has changed the dynamics dramatically and the front was redefined in 1981 when the "older front" was just a dynamically dead part of the glacier. A mass balance study was carried out between 1985 and 1988 (Grudd 1990. A large scale map was constructed based on aerial photographs taken in 1980.
